A short biography of His Holiness Bhakti Vichar Bishnu Maharaj
His birth and first years of life
Srila Bishnu Maharaj was born into a Vaishnava family on September 10, 1956 on the day of the appearance of Sri Lalita Devi, in the auspicious Tithi village Aliabad in Ganjam district in the state of Orissa, India . His parents gave him the name of Abhimanyu. His father Khali Shyama Das, and his mother Chandramani. They are disciples of Babaji Vaishnava Radhacharan das Maharaj. His early studies and interests included obtaining a degree in Sanskrit, and spiritual arts such as puja, the study of puranas, sadhusanga, the practice of kirtan, and devotional music. His father was a teacher of sankirtan. During his youth he had the fortune to meet many babajis, Mahantas, yogis and sadhus.
His encounter with Gurudeva, initiation and studies
Before he met his spiritual master Vishnupada Om 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaj, a disciple of Srila Bhaktisidhanta Sarasvati Thakur, in the year 1978 He related to the devotees of his Gurudeva and another disciple from Srila Saraswati Thakura Bhaktisidhanta, Nitya-lila pravista Nityananda Goswami Maharaj in Brahmapur, Orissa, which also belonged to Sri Krishna Caitanya Mission. In 1979 Sripad Bishnu Maharaj joined the Math and took Harinama and Diksha from Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaj. His brahmacari name was Ananta Krishna das. His studies include the Bhagavad Gita scriptures (which he has memorized in full), Srimad Bhagavatam, including the commentary of Srila Visvanatha Chakravarti Thakur, Chaitanya Charitamrita, Sat Sandarbha of Jiva Goswami, much of the other Goswami literature, Ramayana, the Mahabharata, other Puranas and Upanishadas.
Maharaj takes sannyasa
Maharaj took sannyasa in 1984 from His Divine Grace Nitya-lila Pravista Bhakti Jivan Janardan Goswami Maharaj, a disciple of Srila Saraswati Thakura Bhaktisidhanta in the Puri Ashram of Sri Krishna Caitanya Mission in the presence of his Gurudeva and other Guruvargas.
Temples and performance
Maharaj was one of the original leaders of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mission in Digapahandi, Vrindavan, Berhampur and Mayapur. The temples Dighapahandi, Berhampur and Mayapur still under his careful guidance. Maharaj is also the world coordinator and one of the original members of the Vaishnava World Association, vice president from the beginning of 2004 to the present. Maharaj is the current Acharya of the Mission of Sri Krishna Chaitanya, and has established the International Krishna Chaitanya Mission Organization which, under his guidance and inspiration continues to promote and open centers in countries around the world.
Sadhu sanga and service to Vaishnavas
Srila Bishnu Maharaj has had the great fortune of associating and serving many great Vaishnavas and Vaishnava Acharyas leaders . He had the fortune to receive blessings and association with Nitya-lila pravista Bhakti Vigyan Nityananda Goswami Maharaj, His Divine Grace Nitya-lila pravista Bhakti Jivan Janardan Maharaj, Nitya-lila pravista Sripad Ananda Lilamaya das Prabhu, His Divine Grace Nitya-lila pravista BP Puri Goswami Maharaj, His Divine Grace BK Santha Goswami Maharaj, and many other disciples and followers of Srila Saraswati Thakura Bhaktisidhanta as His Divine Grace Nitya-lila pravista Baman Goswami Maharaj, His Divine Grace Nitya-lila pravista Bhaktidayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj, His Divine Grace Nitya – lila pravista Bhakti Gourav Vaikhanasa Goswami Maharaj, and His Divine Grace Nitya-lila pravista Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja. He maintains friendly relations with Vaishnavas Acharyas of all others Vaishnava institutions as well as His Divine Grace Bhakti Ballabha Teertha Goswami Maharaj, the current president of the Vaishnava World Association.
He currently spends most of his time traveling and preaching in a non-political and respectful mode encouraging among the devotees of all the other sangas who have grown all over the world by the grace of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and our previous Gaudiyas Acaryas.
Preaching and world tour
Srila Bishnu Maharaj has always been an enthusiastic preacher and considers that it is the work of his life to preach and carefully explain bhakti Krishna, pure devotion to Sri Guru service to the Vaishnavas, and Gaudiya siddhanta for the benefit of the audience of the whole world so that they may be blessed and may accept the refuge of the spiritual life. In order to fulfill the great missionary desire of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Maharaj began his travels outside of India for the first time in 1995, traveling to Thailand. Then, in 1997 he traveled with his Gurudev, Srila BV Puri Maharaja, to Europe, and then to America in 2001 and again in 2002. He currently travels throughout Asia, America, Mexico, Australia, Italy, Spain, Austria, Republic Czech, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Hungary and England. When he is not traveling internationally, he tours and supervises the temples of India, as he speaks many regional dialects, thus facilitating the message of Mahaprabhu wherever He preaches. After the disappearance of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaja, His Holiness Srila Bishnu Maharaja, by order of his Gurudeva, accepted the sacred service of Acharya and initiating guru of the Mission of Sri Krishna Chaitanya.
